Cosmetic Surgery: Beauty at what price?

The Rise of Cosmetic Surgery

The cosmetic surgery industry has been steadily growing over the past decade.  The BBC recently reported that figures produced by the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (Baaps) show a 13% increase in the number of cosmetic procedures carried out in 2015.

The results overturn a recent decline, perhaps caused by both the recession and concerns about the safety of materials used following the faulty breast implant scandal.  It appears that both genders are increasingly resorting to nips, tucks and jabs to restore youth and achieve the body beautiful.

Unfortunately the results are not always what is hoped for or promised.  We have successfully obtained considerable compensation on behalf of clients who have been injured by cosmetic surgery procedures.

Common Cosmetic Surgery Claims

Common procedures where mistakes are made and compensation claims arise include:

  • Nose reshaping (rhinoplasty)
  • Botox
  • laser skin resurfacing
  • Breast surgery
  • Cosmetic Dentistry – including implants and teeth whitening procedures
  • Facelifts
  • Liposuction
  • Tummy tucks (gastric band surgery)
  • After care – including failure to diagnose infection

Surgery Abroad

Patients are often tempted to travel abroad for surgery, attracted by the lower costs of procedures.  If a surgical mistake occurs during a procedure abroad, you may still be able to bring proceedings in NI.  You should therefore always obtain initial legal advice from an experienced medical negligence solicitor in NI; local lawyers may be retained on your behalf by your solicitor, as and when necessary.

If you or a member of your family have been injured or left disfigured by negligent plastic surgery or cosmetic dentistry, call us for free initial advice and we will be happy to help you.
